Thanks guys for your kind words. Painting this one really was a lot of fun. I especially enjoy these kind of subjects because there aren't really any "rules" which makes it hard to go wrong 😃 With the exception of an enamel filter, all the weathering was achieved using acrylics.

Interesting. You build up the colors, not wear it down by putting on several layers and grind them down then. Thanks for elaborating.

The kit is a classic AMT one and is very basic, with very basic detail. It looks the part, it's just a bit simple. I jazzed it up a bit by filling the interior with all sorts of "junk" and added a point of interest with the surfboard propped against the car rather than on roof racks. Actually, the surfboard was the most difficult part. Painting it with the discoloured wax was a little bit of a challenge.

Thanks Bernhard. No, I just made it up in my head, I didn't have any references to work from. I do a lot of different weathered model builds across different categories. For me it is just applying those techniques, no matter the subject. Decay is decay!

Thanks István, that is exactly what every modeller wants to hear! 👍

Thank you everyone for your nice comments. Quite a bit of practice was envolved to get to this point, but it was all worth it in the end. 🙏👍

Great work! the most difficult work is to replicate the nature, and you did an amazing job there!

Thanks Michael. Yeah.........I'm not really set up for showroom finishes. I don't have the gear to stop getting dust and fluff and other bits of random atmosphere sticking in the paintwork. I have tried a couple of shiny ones, but I nearly always end up with a fluff monster! Does this one count? [img1]

Good luck. While I start to be content with my small scale figures I am stll anxious to switch to bigger scales, let alone big scale busts. What helped me improve handling acrylics in figure painting was to highly dilute the paint, unload the brush almost entirely and apply multiple very translucent layers. This of course is pretty laborious and time consuming. So I am still on the lookout for faster techniques. I assume it will be like my handling an airbrush. No cracking the code but slowly improving step by step.

This was a difficult build for me. I found it a very complicated kit with many, many small parts. In particular the tracks are very trying to assemble. I got there in the end though. I'm pleased to say it won a Gold and "Best Military Vehicle" at the State Championships that year. Pretty funny given that it is a bulldozer.......

Thank you Major Oak. Good luck with your build. In hindsight (or should that be Hound-sight 🤣) I wish I had done this in 1/48 instead. The 1/35 kit is just too big....

This really didn't turn out the way I imagined it was going to. It isn't that I think it's "bad", it just wasn't what I was hoping it would look like. Oh well, if you don't try new things then you will never get any better.....
15 October, 02:03
I think it looks good Tim. I'm not as confident doing weathering so I chose to do a camo scheme on my 1/72 one.
