I do understand the reach to perfection. It is your DNA, Martin. As a not car builder, for me it is the closest thing to perfection, but I don't build cars, thus I'm a poor judge. Keep chasing that perfection mate, you're close

With the racing seats, racing belts are needed. Having the choice between orange, black and green, green it was.
Fiddly work, but not too hard. Installing them would have been much easier, if I had done the roll cage after the seat belts. Now it was threading the belts.
The Aoshima wheels look nice, but both the kit and the wheels have a female connection. Some artistic liberties where used…

I’ve come aware of a fatal flaw in my building technique.
I start out well, sanding and cutting every bit until it is ‘perfect’. Then I prime and paint the body and the first colour on the other parts.
Then I lose interest for a while and all the parts are exposed and will be slightly damaged due to other uses of my room. And then I rush to the end. ☹️

For some reason I have three versions of this kit. So there should be 1 that's square?
11 August, 08:47
Square, as in true? Just place it on a flat surface and check that all sides touch the surface. You can also now use your new 123 blocks, to check the sides.

An extra layer of white was needed as the first wasn't opaque enough.

Dry fit of the interior. Seat backing is glued in place and filled.

Off to a good start Martin! You're right, those backseats are really only suited for small children. Or someone you don't like very much🤣
It's a great kit to build, very detailed and with different options depending on the version you want to build. I see you are going for the optional sportsseats, what are your plans for the rest of the car?
Have fun building!
19 July, 06:51
Hi Sander,
No specific plans as of yet. I just started and liked these seats best 😁
It will be a left hand drive. Colour wise, I'm leaning to rsr silver with a black/grey interior.

Having to sit next to my daughter to help her with Physics when needed. That isn't ideal for airbrushing, so I opened another kit for prep.

Lol, he's at it again!
A friend of mine, back in the day, owned a Manta. Over here, Opel is actually Vauxhall, but the Manta was indeed an Opel. His was obviously the road version, but it kinda looked cool for it's time. His, was plagued with issues, especially rust. And naturally, it had to be black, so every bubble showed, on the paintwork. He probably spent more money on WD-40, than in petrol, on that car?
However, you are definitely keeping the model juices flowing, and when I've done the garden, and showed my truck to the public at the national meet, I'll be back behind the bench, infusing plastic and creating memories, just like you guys. So don't worry mate, your influences aren't passing my by! And I've also got to get the wife to take pictures of her KW, that I know she's going to hate doing, but that's what SM is all about! (And obviously the banter) 😉

I have a friend who also had a Manta in the UK back in the day, let's not talk about the rust, I had a Lancia…….

Not a favourite of mine. A lot of work to get an okay-ish result. Fit and decals aren't the best.
Maybe I have been Tamiya-spoiled?

Very nice detail work. All the lines on the chassis is way cool. I too could easily afford a 3D printer. I simply have no place to keep it. I could maybe rig one up in the attic to let it do its thing. However, at this point, I have SO much styrene to work on, I am not "needing" one as of yet.

3d printing is more difficult than you might think, and resin printing is pretty messy and toxic. I have one but I find I don't use it a lot because it's such a finicky process.

This is a great subject. I love the old VWs, and you've done it justice; it's very nice.

Thank you. The kit is old and shouldn't be released anymore. But if you love a challenge and a 1/32 Beetle, go for it!
