It's coming up clear now ... nearly there, most important is not to crack the plastic... clear is very brittle.
Nice interesting project again Lorraine, engines look great.. " Doesn't look like the safest cockpit for pilots ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿ˜‚"
Good luck ๐Ÿ˜บ ๐Ÿคž

Thank you Cristian and Mr D. The pilot may need a high-quality helmet๐Ÿ˜

Hi Lorraine, where did you get that polishing tool from? last time I manually polished a canopy I got old in the process ๐Ÿ˜
 8 April, 14:58
Lorraine Lin Author
Cristian, I started with 800-grit sanding, and then TAMIYA compound. The electric polisher was actually bought from a nail salon๐Ÿ˜œ the final magic is Pledge.
 10 April, 06:18
Cristian A
Thanks for the details, Tamiya compound works wonders. Looks like I need to start visiting a nail salon so I can get modeling tools 😄

Have you ever tried Pledge floor care finish? Soak the canopy into Pledge for few seconds, take it out and let it dry, the effect is very great.
1  10 April, 12:40
Cristian A
Have not tried Pledge floor care finish but I heard about it being good before, I will add it to my shopping list. Thanks for the tip ๐Ÿ‘
Previously, I used the standard window cleaner solution with a cotton bud to remove the excess and gummy residue left behind by the liquid mask, and it worked really well.

Fantastic work so far. Lots of elbow grease.

Definitely following this new build!

I thought Pledge was discontinued?
 13 April, 16:34
Mr D
The pledge future is not easy to get now....there is an alternative now in a green n white bottle. Acrylic floor shine.

Liane Lonesome, Thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad you like it.
I started building aircraft with full interior details last year, and I'm totally hooked! I just added Zoukei-Mura's P-51 and GWH P-40B to my ever-growing stash - really excited to start them.

Happy building, and thanks again for the encouragement!

@Lorraine Lin do you have a youtube channel showing your work and build? That would be super interesting to see ๐Ÿ˜Š

Lorraine Lin Author
Thank you guys!
Actually, I tried different methods like PE mask, decals, and colored pencils to create wood grain effect. Just when I was about to give up and wash off the paint, I accidentally discovered that the paint being brushed off was exactly the effect I wanted.
@Cristian A, sorry I don't have Youtube channel. I will take some more pictures to show how I it works.

The wood Effect is very ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Good, Good technique now you have discovered it.
You will have to build a plywood fuselage Albatross now ๐Ÿคฃ.
Looking great ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘

I took some photos to show the process(pic 15-20). When the brown enamel paint is half-dry, brush it in one direction with a toothbrush until you get the look you want. Then use transparent orange to even out the tone. It's a bit random, but you can repeat the process.

I converted videos to gif (pic16 &17), but seems my GIF are frozen, won't play๐Ÿ˜ญ

You discovered the principle of wood painting with oil paint on acrylic base. With using oil paints instead of enamel you have much more time and control. But it will take a while to harden then. This technique is often used in the biplane scene, e.g. Wingnut Wing kits, as there a many wooden parts to be painted.
1  10 May, 18:25
Ben M
Is there an all acrylic approach? Seems like the transparent orange could be the tamiya acrylic laquer clear orange at least.
 10 May, 20:25
bughunter
Yes, there was a book about it (from AK may be?) and acrylic sets "wood painting". Same beige base as with oils, and then you can simulate the wood grain with different brown and grey paints.I have done it, but do not like it very much as you need to be quick and there is nearly no chance to correct it. With oil paints this is _much_ easier - there is a reason why oil paints are used since centuries.
If you don't like the long hardening time of oil paints you can use an addon which improves the flow and reduces the hardening time. I use "Medium L" form the German manufacturer "Schmincke" but I think you can find such product within the range of every oil paint manufacturer.

Ben M
I do the squeeze the oil paint out on a bit of cardboard overnight before using. The cardboard soaks up some of the linseed oil and then you can paint with it and it dries a lot faster.
