Mina RoToo young to have ever experienced all these 1/1 scale firearm model kits and long out of production. I hope that they eventually release all the pistols and revolvers too. I would like to build all of them and hang them on the wall.

Mina RoThoughts on colors of tools stowed on AFV's,
So over the years I have heard that tools stowed on vehicles were generally over-sprayed with the vehicles overall camouflage color. What are peoples thoughts on this? On many models you tend to see people paint the metal parts of the tools gunmetal and the wood, a wood color. I must admit I have seen many American tanks and even old tools in military surplus stores, painted all OD green, at the same time I have seen German tools with the wood parts painted a dunkelgelb but the metal heads a natural color. What are you thoughts on this? Was it just a preference of the crew in WW2, maybe laziness in not taking tools off the vehicle and spray painting it all in place? Over the years I have done a mix of both natural colored tools and some over sprayed.

Mina Ro AutorKesa I agree with that too and that it just depends on the build and your preference. I am one of those modelers that tries to juggle realism without going overboard to make it 1/1 accurate to the point that its taking over your enjoyment of a build. Then its not fun but I do not do stupid things anymore like I did once when I was a child. I once had a Tamilya Sdkfz 221 on the table and at the time knowing history but not enough, I decided on an Afrika Korps vehicle with SS license plates! ROFL. Now shortly after I discovered in my studies that SS combat units were not in that theater but the damage was done. I have never done something like that since. All of my builds start months before with study of pictures and reading of unit histories. LOL

Mina RoWith the Russia/Ukraine war and tariffs going on. Does anyone know where we can buy these sets in the USA? I tried several European hobby shops. 1 in Czechoslovakia, 1 in Serbia, and the ebay seller who sold them there took his shop down because he cannot sell here. If anyone knows a source please let me know. Even Quinta;s website is not carrying these ans neither does Super hobby in Poland where I buy a lot of stuff.

Mina Ro AutorYes but he no longer sells to USA, his post will not ship here now. I tried, he told me its over tariffs but it could be more complex than that.

Mina RoI wish someone would make a new tool of this classic heli in 1/48. I would love to model a G or K car from the SA bush war era. The old long OOP Fujimi kit has very little detail and if you find one it costs an arm and a leg. The ScaleWorx short run kit is also OOP but its resin and requires a lot of extra work to complete. Maybe LF will upscale their new tool. They make some pretty nice plastic kits of aircraft you do not see anywhere else.

Mina RoBecause of the war its very hard to buy these lense sets anywhere in the western world and I really like them and have used these on many tank models. They make them for many kits. I wish i knew a place because alex aftermarket cannot sell until this war ends.

I remember in the late 80s, a lot of their even then, older kits having out of scale figures that were bigger than 1/35 figures from Tamiya, although even some of Tamiyas early 70s kits seemed to have out of scale figures too. But Italieri had very thick parts. I will say that I think italeri shined in the aircraft department with its 1/72 scale aircraft and many kits were of aircraft not seen in any other kit. A lot of bombers, seaplanes,etc. They also shined with civilian trucks and military trucks as well in 1/35 and larger. I have not built any of their more recent kits but what is other opinions of the company now? I have seen reissues but have not built anything from them in a long time.

pluto455The Italeri catalog includes models from the 1980s. Kits like the Colonial Fiat 508 are well made. The latest planes have new molds. The self-propelled guns have new molds, but their plastic tracks are poorly made. For example, the Italeri Panzer I Ausf B had poor plastic tracks; the new Tamiya mold is better for the Panzer I, which is very well made. The Semovente L6/40 is poorly made. The toy soldiers are terribly made; Tamiya is better. Italeri must invest more if it wants to return to its current level; it must compete with foreign companies that make better models at competitive prices.

pluto455If you like Italian subjects, only Italeri makes tanks. Other companies, like Bronco, produced the Italian L3/33 and 35 tankettes, which are well made. IBG, a Polish company, produced various kits of the Italian Lancia RO 3 truck.
The plastic is weak, comparable to Miniart and ICM. The Chinese company Lamno Model is due to release the AB 40 and 41 kits, but they had some difficulties designing the interior of the armored cars. I can't tell you more.

Mina RoJust bought this. Curious if anyone knows of a decent Afrika Korps staff or officers set that will fit in with this kit? It could use more than just the included figure of Rommel in the compartment. Maybe 2-3 more figures. Was thinking maybe some of the old dragon figures or verlinden. Hopefully the detail will match the Takom ones. So far I have found one Hobby Fan figure set that might be compatible.

Mina RoSomething really confusing about newer Tamiya kits. Many of their new tools still utilize free rolling wheels using poly caps but sadly they include the horrid "link and length" tracks that I am not much of a fan of, that are not workable. Why design wheels to roll but include tracks that aren't? I think Tamiya should up their game and start including home brewed workable tracks or offer them as an upgrade for their kits like most companies have been doing since DML started doing this since their smart kits line and is pretty commonplace now.

pluto455Mina, I also own this kit. I think it's well made compared to KV. Trumpeter is an excellent modeling company. I prefer link-link tracks or magic tracks or rubber tracks. Link-link tracks where you insert pins, like those from Miniart, Ray Field Models, Bronco, Hobbyboss, and T-26, are too difficult and unnerving for me. That's my opinion.

Mina Ro AutorAgree, miniart tracks rock. I do wish though that they made some omsh tracks for the Su-122/54's but have not made any workable yet. sadly the magic tracks are pretty expensive. For some reason, miniart seems to have discontinued their early workable T-55 tracks. Glad I got a set before they did.

What do you guys prefer using to simulate wires to machineguns on 1/35 armor. I want to simulate the wires/cables that go to IDF machine guns on Israeli tanks. I need something super thin but often when you go to buy the wire the MM or gauge specs are off or does not offer a good interpretation of its size in pictures. What size would you guys recommend? The wires that go to machine guns would have to be a lot thinner then antenna aerials. I was hoping to find a spool of it cheap. I generally make my own aerials from stretched melted sprue but control wires weave all over and plastic sprue is not going to be as easy as bendable wire is so its not going to work for this. So many Merkava model builds are missing this critical detail.
