I am sharing a book: "Set fire to the Third Reich" in French: " The Second World War was the true laboratory of what we call today "special forces". If all the belligerents set up commando, sabotage or guerrilla units, it was the British who created the largest number and often the most original. Indeed, Her Majesty's Army has always shown an innate talent for bringing together unorthodox soldiers in times of war within particular formations. This is what it did from the summer of 1940, facing Germany in Europe and North Africa, and in Japan, in Southeast Asia by creating more than thirty "special" units, dependent on the special services, the general staff or theater commanders, responsible for assisting resistance movements, strategic destruction raids or reconnaissance and difficult assaults in support of military operations. Their numbers were very variable: some units did not reach twenty men, others exceeded a thousand. Their modes of action were also very varied: foot, airborne, nautical, motorized, etc. However, all had a similar goal: to wage an unconventional war against the Axis forces in which all blows were allowed." The book covers all the units well, it is interesting for some photographs but also to better understand the mechanics
