The two pylons with droptanks are a feature of later models but not of the F4U-1A. Furthermore the red border of the US-marking did only appear for a very short period in 1943 - so definitely earlier than for the two marking options (both in 1944). Exceptions were made however, but only depictions of VF's "3" show them with red bordered US-markings. It's Ens. Frederick J. Streig's mount.
