The sun came out late in the day.
Project: 2004 Pontiac GTO

This is a project I am doing in parallel to other builds, and between builds. Let's see where it goes...

Well, you're off to a very good start! Not your first car model I presume?

Sander, thanks, the last time I worked on a car model was in the early 1970s... I returned to scale models in 2023 - but only military ww2 era small scale... My local modelling club asked members "go outside comfort zone"... hehe

Started painting the body X-3 Royal Blue. I need to be patient and do light coats. I am not sure of the first attempt. I will wait to see how it looks in the morning. (no pictures - yet)

Starting to look better with subsequent coats. Now I leave it for a while to go to another aircraft.

Coming back after the Boulton Paul Defiant. This automobile kit is a simple snap type so coming back this time quickly brings it together. Not 100% happy with the blue paint job, it looks better in the photos than it actually does. I will see how it goes with the clear coat. Since I am not an car person I will use what I have - no lacquers or shiny coats. I have a semi gloss (for air brush) and a clear gloss coating (rattle can). Let's see! ...

I may strip the blue and start again, and get actual metallic paint...

Had this sitting in the stash for years, always wondered what was in the box. Your's looking awesome thus far ! ๐

I am going to strip the paint and start again. The cars I see from the 'car guys' in my club are amazing and I will never match them, but they are inspiring me to do better. I have some nice metallic colours on order. There will be a couple week pause again. Back to military modelling and military paints...

After one month back at it. I stripped the hood and bumper and repainted the entire outside. With Vallejo metallic blue. Looks better than my first attempt. Onwards!

I'm on that. I know it very well, when a model builder has to break out of his personnel comfort zone. I did it three times in the last 5 years and - how to say it politely - I'm not the biggest fan of militaria or trucks *lol* So I'm watching. It is always interesting to watch wips of people out of their comfort zone.

She's done.. I was expecting a glossier shiny finish, but I did not use that kind of paint even though the clear coat was gloss - ended up looking satin. Final assembly fit was good. Only issues were the muffler tail pipe and the steering column through the fire wall. I will do another car in the future, but not near future. I would look for a 1972 Toyota Corolla or something close to that as it was my first car - in 1977. 600$ and it lasted me 2 years..
PS - hello expanded comfort zone

There's always something to learn from every build, having said that, looks good to me ๐๐๐
Keep going, keep learning ๐
