The truck looks very nice, but I'm not sure about the stripes. They look off somehow.

If you mean the stripes along the side and over the hood I agree with you Martin. On the original truck the yellow stripes are actually gold colored, it would have made a big difference if the kit decals were the right color. And backed in white, which the gold colored decals that are in kit are NOT, so they vanish on the dark bodycolor🙄

I have the Bandit, to do myself. It's still sealed, so I've never looked inside. I'm wondering if masking the stripes, is the best solution?

From what I've gathered on the web and if you're not that handy with masking, there seem to be decals from another brand that look a lot better. Sadly the person who made these stopped last year, so it's near impossible to find them. Brand was called Modeltruckin. So yeah, when going for the most realistic look it's probably best to airbrush the stripes. Personally I like the kit decals just fine.

Bozzer, do you have the original AMT kit or the re-re by Round2 like mine?
This re-re is a bit rough around the edges when it comes to moulding and flash, and with warped chassisbeams and a slightly twisted rear canopy part.

Modeltruckers.com seems to reproduce the better decals, but I'm not sure about the quality

Apologies for the delay, my friend, things are busy here, at Castle Bozzer, and my online time is much more thinly spread.
I have the original kit. I've heard rumours about the Round 2 kit, so I avoided it. In fairness though, I also heard bad things about the repop of the Hideout Truck, but mine went together pretty good. Obviously, I had to sink the wheels in by 4mm each side, for it to look more realistic, but that's always been an issue with it, and the Papa Truck.
I sadly heard about Jerry's retirement, and prior to it, bought a load of decals from him. Unfortunately, I never got a few, that I later realised I possibly needed. So when I heard that Modeltruckers bought the files from Jerry, I was pretty relieved. I gotta admit, his Smokey and The Bandit, trailer decals, are awesome!
For the service that Jerry has given, to the modelling community, I can only wish him a happy retirement

Thanks for the heads-up on the wheel placement on the Hideout truck, I'm currently in the process of building that one, the original kit this time. Good to hear Modeltruckers has the right stuff 👍🏻
