Commissioned Stuka
1:24
And finally! I return the commission to the person who commissioned it!
A 700-plus mile round trip, but we did manage to...
Project: Stalingrad Stuka

Defo following along. 1:24 scale Andy? That's a big change of pace 😄
6 February 2024, 06:05
Thanks for looking me out Gary, it's a commission so not my usual scale, correct. Having done the original SuperKit of the Mk.1a I'm hoping this 1975 moulding will not be too difficult…watch this space!

I'm gonna have to slide in for this. I've always been curious about the Stuka? Done the Spit, Hurricane and 109, and had the Hellcat, but gifted it to my brother. Judging at what I had to work with, you've got a tough ride! But, that's why we do it, right? 😉

Hello Bozzer yes I'll suffer for my art! And thanks Gary V - hope to progress soon- more photos coming up.
11 February 2024, 21:29
That's going to be a big aircraft, I wonder if the sirens will work? 😉 Following. 👍

Hi Andy! This looks very impressive build. I was wondering if you could tell me if this is a new tool or not. Looking forward to see the final product!
1 5 March 2024, 11:28
@DarthPanzer: you can figure it out yourself: klick on the kit in the project, then scroll down to the timeline and you will see, that it was a new tool - back in 1975. Everything after that were only reboxes.
I more than once cherished this timeline as it will tell how old the stuff in the new box really is.
1 5 March 2024, 17:02
Well done Andy! I know I'm late to the show, but looks like you're well on the way. Is this an old one or the new Classic boxing?

Well, I have kick-started this carcass….
Work resumes…
It's a 1976 kit FFS.
So much prep required, and I'm determined to make a good result for an "auld Scottish Pal" who asked me to make a "Stalingrad Stuka" and I couldn't say "no"!!
19 December 2024, 19:47
Thanks Neil and Skyhiker….the glacial pace of this build continues….slowly and "with plenty of lumps"….
19 December 2024, 19:50
@Guy, thank-you, model making has many important benefits in terms of mental health! And I've been really lazy too…I'll swing by and have a look at your stuff!!
19 December 2024, 22:56
It's looking good so far.
I remember building this when I was a kid back in the 70's. It was a mind-blowing kit back then.
24 December 2024, 10:24
Thanks Gorby and Robert!, seasons greetings- I'm going to push on with this over the holidays- welcome aboard!!
25 December 2024, 20:28
You are most welcome Jennifer!
Thank-you J35J for the acknowledgment too.
25 December 2024, 22:49
In the twilight of '24 I have pushed ahead before the winter (what the Germans should have done in 1941!)…around 20 hours of work provides a good progress report on here…

Bombs should not be black!
And they were usually color-coded to indicate the type of bomb. For a 24-scale model, I think these details matter.

Well, I can offer more interesting ideas for " Just artistic license."

Denis!! I love this !!, thank-you!!
I did the bombs in Tamiya's Panzer Grey…. (RLM66?)…and I'll have to stick with that decision now as they're stuck on….I'm guessing macabre humour was on both sides of the war…..many many thanks for your critique!
7 January, 18:56
Andy, this one has to be huge. The details are superb and the paint job is very good. Now I understand why I haven't seen you around 72nd scale in a long time.
Your friend will be very proud when you finish it and give it to him. Great job so far! 👍
8 January, 19:16
Thanks Guy! I think there are better mediums than PE for the subject of fabric seat belts in 1/24th….they are tricky to shape into something that looks line "fabric"….but glad I've used them !
8 January, 22:14
Thanks Cuajete!, any imperfections in painting will be disguised with weathering!, this subject's going to be battle-weary! And, yes, 24th is a less familiar scale, but when an old mate asks you for a commission- it's rude not to…..
1 8 January, 22:16
Hi folks, the untermenschen of Stalingrad will soon be threatened by the sound of Jericho trumpets, a 500kg bomb and 4 others….nearly over the line with my commission- it's taken far too long, but my patron is very happy with the final result.
Now to get it up to Scotland….a 500km journey!!
1 5 May, 16:52
@gorby, you're too kind!….as I look at the pictures I'm still disappointed in some aspects of the build, mainly the aging moulds, but I have done the best with what we've got. It is huge and impressive in this scale - apparently better than Trumpeter's Ju-87 (later versions)
5 May, 17:06
I don't know what problems this mold has, but it looks fantastic with the magnificent job you've done. As I said before, your patron will be very proud when you give it to him.
Congrats, Andy. Great job! 👍
5 May, 18:08
Top notch Andy mate!
I hope you personally transport that beautiful aircraft, up to Scotland? After all that work, my kecks would be full of doo doo, if I let someone else do it!
She came out great mate, you should be proud! 👍
5 May, 22:02
Great finish Andy. The chipping on the cowling looks fab! From the size of it you could drop a real engine in and you could fly it up to Scotland yourself maybe. 😄
6 May, 15:36
@Cuajete, David, Bozzer, Dave, Rui S, Gary, and Jennifer: appreciate the compliments!!
Final photos in the UK sunshine [have pointed out some minor touch-ups that I will do around the walkways and the exhaust smokes]. Canon EOS 5D Mk4, EOS 100mm and 24-85mm ISO 100
Never 100% satisfied with any build, but for the effort I've put in, am reasonably pleased with the result. Now to find a suitable display stand for transportation. See you all soon on another build....bye for now!
1 7 May, 11:44
Excellent build Andy, I'm sure the person you've built it for will be delighted! 👍
1 13 May, 08:02
Congrats Andy. The best looking build of this kit I have seen. Your client should definitely give you a tip!
1 14 May, 06:31
Nice one mate.
It's great to hear and see, a happy ending.
Your friend looks very happy and I'm sure that he'll cherish it, for ever. Great work buddy 👍
1 24 August, 15:57
The smile on your friend's face is the greatest reward and recognition of your work!
2 24 August, 17:34
Fantastic, Andy!
Your friend can feel proud of this great and magnificent job 👍
2 24 August, 19:35
Thank-you all "mates"…. I had to drive all the way up to glorious Perthshire in Scotland as that thing couldn't be delivered any other way. Naturally we made a great weekend of it, and to reciprocate he had carved me a Battle of Britain motif in stone ( he's the real artist!).
You've all hinted at this- commissioned builds (well, I didn't charge him) are very rewarding when the "patron" is taken by the level of effort one tries to put in.
I may return to this kit again one day, for myself at least!
Once again, to you all, thank-you for sharing your sentiments, best, Andy

I've always had a soft spot for German armour and the engineering that the Germans did. Their planes and aeronautical technology, also didn't go, unrecognised. In the right hands, it's possible that they would've won the war. However, we did, and that's a tribute to the British spirit and determination! But you aced this build, and you should be proud of your achievement! I'd love to mess about with one, and obviously try my best, to replicate, such a menace to the skies.
Take a bow sir, you earned it 👍
1 24 August, 21:43
Been away for a bit, so it's late to see the finished project. It is beautiful.
1 17 September, 04:57
Just to add to this narrative and to assure all that I wasn't being rude….
Bozzer, as I recall you've got a soft spot for 24th scale?, so therefore I sincerely appreciate your comment!
Dave, Alec and Jennifer; likewise, thanks for following me across the divide from 72nd to 24th!
There are stories that go from beyond the bench-and-build and the recipient even posted me pictures of his gatherings to discuss the technical merits of the Ju-87. It now has a new Scottish life!!
