I've found this "Chrome Polishing Powder" and wanted to give it a try. I was not sure what I expected but my expectation...

So, I've started building my first motorcycle. The biggest challenge was the total lack of chrome plated parts in the kit and the abundance of the aforementioned on the real motorcycle. I like challenges like that. This led me to try some new paints and techniques.

That chrome looks amazing - where did you get it from and does it stand up to being handled?

Shut up and take my money .... that is awesome. Let us know in case you tested any gloss varnish on top of that. Thanks

Thx mates, answering your questions:
Handling:
-The chrome layer is surprizingly durable and does not rub off as easy as Alclad 2 for example, which is very fragile. If I pick up a plated part with fresh white cotton gloves, the fingertips become slightly discolored, so naturally some chrome gets rubbed off, but it is too little to notice some quality loss of the chrome plating on the part itself. But I imagine if you touch the plating a lot or too rough, you can damege it visibly. I can tell you more during final assembly..
Fingerprints:
-Like already mentioned, I've handled the parts using gloves only and I see no reason to touch them with bare hands. But I would bet it is a fingerprint magnet
Clear coating:
-No, I did not test clear over it (yet) For me personally I don't see any reason to do it, if I had to guess it will probably alter the chrome effect in some way. I might do some test parts just out of curiosity

A very important tone, the base layer has to be a very high gloss black. I used Tamiya Lacquers because they dry insanely fast. I painted a thick, wet coat of gloss black and applied chrome powder on the same evening. Including rubbing it in with a polishing cloth. Other glossy paints (like Tamiya X series) need weeks to dry properly. The LP colors just hours. So I strongly suggest using them or other modern lacquers.
Yes, it is the one Spanjaard mentioned, I bought mine from the german retailer MBK
