Good evening ! I tried to insert a comment yesterday, but i failed ! 🙂
So let's do it again.
I started work on this kit roughly 50 months ago : i had a lot of other things on the bench... But there was so much work to do that both arms went down for a while, right after having done the main paint work. I first aimed to build a bomber version, but i failed to find an adequate picture with identification codes, and after some weeks i switched to this version, an Aeroflot plane used to resupply Leningrad and partisans in the northern part of the frontline. I found two pictures of this specific aircraft, both of good quality, then i made the code with transparent decal sheet and my computer and ink printer. Stars were painted. 7,62 mm ShKas were scratched, as were the droppable cargo bags below the fuselage's center part. I used Armory's wheels and UTK-1 dorsal turret, as well as KV Model's masks.
This is not an easy kit, and i recommend not to start four such kits at the same time as i did... as the risk of exhaustion is important ! 🙂
But the subject worths that pain and in the end you get a very interesting plane on your shelves. Li-2's production reached a little more than 5000 planes, to compare to the 10000 DC-3/C-47 built in the USA until 1947 : Soviets purchased the production license at the end of the thirties and adapted the DC-3 to their needs and production capacity : the result is a very different aircraft, entirely with metric mesures, only keeping the overall look of Douglas's flying wonder ! Armament was added during the war only without problems. Engines used were less powerful than P&W's ones, and performances were significantly lower, and original C-47 given during wartime much appreciated for that !
Meanwhile, Li-2 were the backbone of USSR's air transport capacity and fought very well until May 1945 : production ended in 1952 as occured the age of turbojets.
And that's it !
I go back to my Junkers G.24 ! 🙂
Another easy kit...
