I love a nice Mini build. It was my first and second car. The bodywork always suffered, but that engine started, every single time, on both of them. Good old points and condenser! I still remember the dwell angle, for the correct ignition timing. I always wanted a 1275 GT engine though, and 8 spoke alloy wheels. But in the middle 80's, and being 17, that was like buying a small aircraft! Great memories though 🙂

I'm glad I could bring back some happy memories for you. I've never driven one myself but I do love them. They are such a unique looking car it is always noteworthy when I see one.

Jeremy Clarkson said that you can't consider yourself to be a true petrol-head unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo and driven an original Mini, and I'm with him on that.

Interesting, I've never really thought about if I consider myself a petrol-head or not. I love cars and building models of them but I hate driving. I guess I'm not really a petrol-head then more of plastic-glue-head. And I'm okay with that 😄

If you ever drove an original Mini then I can guarantee you would love driving.

I likened it, to driving a luxury go-cart. They hug tight bends, and are great for our British country roads. Parking was never a problem either. I upgraded to a Vauxhall chevette hatchback, then scrapped that for a MKIII Ford Escort. It was like a larger Mini, but the handling wasn't as sharp? Owned front wheel drives, ever since.
