As can be seen from the number of parts the Airfix Vc has quite a few more parts than the Revell Vb. Again, we'll see how we get on. 🙂

Canopy added, this was an issue as I used the Vb cockpit from the starter set as Airfix did not have a replacement for the missing canopy. Primer added and pre-shading painted on with Vallejo Model Air black. 🙂

Decals added. Underside tail plane ends painted with a mix of Vallejo Model Air Red and Hull Red to get the brick red type colour. Finally, a mild wash was added to the panel lines. 🙂

Now complete, the prop, undercarriage, rigging and other bits and pieces were added as well as matt varnish.
The Spitfire Vc also introduced the Type C or "Universal" wing along with revised main undercarriage; the tops of these wings featured large, bulged fairings to provide clearance for the ammunition feed motors of two Hispano cannon. Because two cannon were seldom fitted, these fairings were later reduced in size to more streamlined shapes.
2 Sqn SAAF was established on 1 Oct 1940. Initially, the Sqn was based in Kenya and during the East Africa campaign shot down 8 Italian aircraft. In July 1941, the had moved Egypt and operated Curtiss Tomahawks during the North African campaign. After August 1943, the Sqn saw action in Sicily, Italy & Yugoslavia with Spitfire Vcs. The aircraft denoted was based at Gioia del Colle in October 1943 which had been captured by the 8th Army that month. The airbase was subsequently handed over to the US Air Force. The Sqn continued to serve in Italy for the rest of WW2. It is unknown who piloted this particular aircraft but it was recorded as posted missing, presumed shot down by flak on 30 Sep 1944.

Nice work Guy. You're like a machine ! Then again I build at a glacier pace.

Thanks for the follow Guy! It's been 25 years since I took on an aviation topic, but it's photographic build logs like this that really give me an itchy (airbrush) trigger-finger... A very nicely done Spitfire!
