I love uselessly large armored vehicles

I've started building the idlers and sprockets. The idlers are installed with asymmetric legs. Now I'm attacking the bogies. Some figures are chosen to make a little dio near the tank, but I had to order a tortoise and then add it to Scalemates. I even had to make a new subject for it.

How complicate is the running gear ?

Yes !

I assembled the running gear parts, if you take the time to let the components set straight before mounting, I think it will turn out easy. It seems like the wheels will be removable from the bogies to be painted. I hope the connections will not break when I put them back in. I lost one small part, keeping me from completing the last bogie. If I don't find it soon I will scratch it. The SKP figure is also assebled in a looking down position.

I'll tag along for this. 🙂

Thanks for the interest. I had to scratch a bogie part that I lost. I received my Animal Den printed tortoise and closed off the air holes in the bottom. It made Winston drop his cigar. Then I changed the way the sprockets were mounted to the hull. I preferred a rotatable axle in stead of flatley glueing them to the hull like Meng does.

I approve of the tortoise

She is now painted and waiting for a wash. The base color is RLM02. The tank bogie type with shock absorbers in some instances has an unsufficient fit. One idler has less space because of the torsion bar, and I had to remove part of the connection flange for the side plate. The R-model tracklinks are a dream to build after the Masterclub S300 ones. Now there are steel pins extending to half the link and only one of the links broke after an error. Pims almost never bend. Some tracklinks should be straightened but this is not damaging them. The metal RB barrel has some differences with the kit one. The muzzle break should be drilled open and the mantlet should fit with one bolt up.

Every small detail on the hull is replaced, and it is glued shut. Some brackets had a large locating hole, that's covered up with some resin remains. The little clamps are even finer in PE.

Some rollers on the hull seem to be designed to attach stowage, but other brackets are not so clear in their functions. The muffler is getting a better PE connection to the hull. The resin grenade throwing frames from Voyager are to be discarded, you gain a lot of time and effort in just using the kit parts. These are cast hollow and thus are a lot easier to drill. Like that, you can use the brass smoke cans on them in stead. The resin is just not thick enough for the dimensions Voyager is exacting. The towing cables are made from copper wiring and I also wound the ends with thin wire I have on a coil. Now, the tank is ready to paint and I think I found a useful base frame for the little dio.

The diorama layout looks great. Can't wait to see this one painted.

Thanks, Ben, I did paint it yesterday. It's Tamiya Olive drab modulated with Gunze Midnight Oil Blue and Tamiya Dark Yellow 2. I also painted what will be mostly hidden under the sideskirts, but there the wheels will still have to be painted black. This is possible because all of them still rotate. The tracks were first painted brown and immersed in an orange solution and left to dry. Then they were steelbrushed.

Huh, I haven't modulated green with blue before , only yellows and tans. Look forward to seeing it

It was added to post- shade the olive drab, so it had to be a bit darker. That blue is quite dark, it's clearly visible in the shadowing.

The rubber parts are painted Vallejo gloss black. The tank can't be put upside down anymore because of the fragile smoke canisters. So it's jacked up 45° and the wheels are painted like that. Also, a gloss coat is put on.

The photo frame is transformed to a dio base by clamping a plank to it and using strips of cardboard originating from the Tamiya Brachiosaurus box, which is an excellent cardboard source, the plank is glued to the frame. I also prepared to spray the muffler in burnt metal.

The muffler is painted in a mix of Tamiya Gun Metal and NATO Black and then misted with orange. The cables are also painted gun metal and the figure painting is completed.

An AK wash for green vehicles was added, then the tracks were mounted and the side armor fixed. Some weathering may follow.

I drybrushed the tank and gave the tortoise some Black Dog lettuce and some carrots. The tank was attached to the plank with hidden wires. The project is finished and will visit some contests at its own tempo.
