It can also be a historically accurate replica. As you know, a lot of chaps build these things to match (to whatever extent possible) machines that went into the grinder. I really applaud Tamiya making these new tools. I just hope they do not die due to the mass flooding of super detailed kits made by communists. I do like a lot of Chinese kits but many of us grew up on these Japanese kits and have some loyalties to Tamiya, even their old kits are still fun to build once in a while with all their simplicity and issues.

Model isn't a toy by definition, Billy. In fact, "model" largely implies replication which in itself suggest knowledge, even if bare minimum, of the topic you're trying to tackle. At least as far as historical scale modeling goes, of course. Your latter statement is just laughably subjective, it should honestly be obvious to you. Pedanticism and history are the main reasons I got into the hobby in the first place. See? Didn't make much of a good point, did you? Do you also believe that chaps like Alexander Halac, Ralph Santolla and Ihsahn put people off from grabbing their first guitar?
I will however agree to an extent: "chasing the perfect Olive Drab/Dunkelgelb shade" and replicating exact vehicles with exact stowage and decals (Wittman tigers and Furies of this world) is the single most uninspiring and boring approach with very few exceptions.

I cannot believe this has turned into an argument. The only models I ever thought of as toys were like those airfix and old revell kits with working features like retractible gear and working flaps or the motorized tank kits and I admit I had a few as a child (Like the tbf avenger with working gear and even the bomb would drop by pushing a lever)) and played with them but what I do now I consider art and thats just my own opinion. Even then there should be no reason to start a fight over it. "FFS" is right.
