respect about those ,50 cal jackets, they look great. I think I would have probably look for brass barrels instead....

Very nice start, I am in. Your work reminds me very much to my own adventure with the H version 🙂 Although I wasn't brave enough to use the PE barrels from Eduard's set and went to the easier way instead - resin and brass. Good luck, will be expecting your progress here.

Looks great so far with these PE and brass details! Not long ago I finished B-25 J version from Hasegawa (repacked by Eduard). Good kit. Happy modelling, I'm taking a seat! 🙂

Nearly done masking the canopy and other glazing, so I should be able to put down some paint before the end of the weekend. I might have been better off using the transparent kit parts, but we will see if the gamble pays off. It looks acceptable in photos now, but I made a real dog's dinner of it along the way.

Thanks to everyone for the follows. I'll throw this question out to the community. I'm not thrilled with the way the different metallics look on the fuselage. I think the contrast on the wings looks brilliant, and there's literally no difference except that the fuselage is a more complex surface. Because of the way the duraluminum, aluminum and dark and white aluminum paints refract light, they look much lighter than the polished aluminum (over black gloss).
Does it bother anyone else in the last photo? There is admittedly less contrast in more even lighting conditions. Any suggested solutions?
Two ideas:
- Add 1-2 more contrasting areas on the port side
- One more light pass with the polished aluminum to lighten up the whole, though this would knock back the shine a bit too.
Once I paint the anti-glare and add decals, the added color will distract from the contrast in the paint, but I don't want to wait until that stage if the metallics need adjustment now. Thanks!

Hi, the model looks great so far. However IMHO the contrast is too pronounced.
If you don't like it as it is now, you may try to dull the effect by overspraying the new panels with polished aluminium. I personally do panel effect with mixes instead of clear paint - by adding a bit of other metallic to the main color - in your case polished ALU + ALU, or any other. This makes the panel difference less contrast.
The other approach which sometimes I use is paneling with same metallic shade but from another brand - e.g. Alclad ALU and AK Xtreme ALU. There is always a difference especially from different angle.
Also depending on your vision of the final look, you may dull the polished aluminium with faint overspray with regular/white aluminium, thus imitating panel oxidation.
And the last thing I can recommend is to play with the base. Different finishing of the black base makes one and the same metallic to look different. It is too late to use it on this model, but why not in future?
For reference you may have a look on my Tempest with NMF 🙂

Thanks, Tony. I will approach it a bit differently on the next one. The main culprit is white aluminum, which contrasts much more than the other shades, and I compounded the mistake by using it on a large panel near the top of the fuselage. The variation is a bit less distracting now that I've added a few more differently colored panels, but next I'll add a very light layer of polished aluminum to try and reduce the contrast. If that's not enough, I'll do a very light layer of aluminum as you suggest.
The metal on the real-life plane was very dull and looks white or light gray in photos, so the polished aluminum was a poor choice to start with. It has the patchwork look I'm going for but not so extreme. Thank you for the advice!
