Personal Interest: During the 1980s, I honestly was not aware of the different variants and capabilities of Soviet SLBMs, only that they posed an existential threat to our way of life. Soviet Delta III and Delta IV submarines could carry 16 SS-N-18 SLBMs. These newer Delta-class submarines served throughout the 1980s and continue to operate to this day.
