Personal Interest: During the 1980s, I honestly was not aware of the different variants and capabilities of Soviet ICBMs, only that they posed an existential threat to our way of life. The SS-17 entered service in 1975 as a Multiple Independent Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) ICBM, making this a particularly threatening weapon to the ICBM complexes near to my home.
