Personal Interest: During the 1980s, I honestly was not aware of the different variants and capabilities of Soviet ICBMs, only that they posed an existential threat to our way of life. The SS-13 was first Soviet solid fuel ICBM, roughly the equivalent of the US Minuteman. Though it was removed from service in 1976, modern variants of this rocket like the RT-2PM Topol (SS-25 Sickle) served thoughout the 1980s and remain active to this day.
