Personal Interest: The R-12 is a particularly notorious Medium Range Ballistic Missile (MRBM). It entered Soviet Service in 1959, and was deployed to Cuba in 1960, the event that triggered the Cuban Missile Crisis and nearly started a nuclear war between the US and USSR. This missile was continuously upgraded and remained in service through 1993. It was eliminated only to be in compliance with START II.
