Personal Interest: During the 1980s, I honestly was not aware of the different variants and capabilities of Soviet ICBMs, only that they posed an existential threat to our way of life. The SS-18 was intended by the Soviets to give them a first strike capability, with multiple high yield warheads and up to 40 penetration aids designed to destroy an entire US Minuteman ICBM complex with a single weapon.
