Personal Interest: In 1982, President Reagan re-started the "MX" missile program abandoned in the Carter administration. The MX was a fearsome weapon, carrying 10 warheads and featuring a cold start rapid launch system. The missile became operational as the LGM-118 Peacekeeper in 1986. Fifty missiles replaced older Minuteman missiles in existing silos near F.E. Warren AFB, WY, including in my home state of Nebraska. The missile was in service during my USAF career, and decommissioned in 2005 as the START II treaty prohibited ICBMs with multiple warheads.
