Another for my Japanese WW2 stable. The Ki-106 was an all wood version of the Ki-84. It was in response to the shortage of materials the Japanese were experiencing during WW2. 🙂

Despite the instructions from RS saying that this should be IJA Dark Green, I have plumped for the usual colour that what the Ki-106 was modeled against, the Ki-84 Vallejo Model Air IJA Olive Green, 👍

Decals now added. The decals were very thin and came off the accompanying paper very quickly. Of note is that the decal diagram, the decals were quite a lot larger than the diagram suggested! 🙂

Final parts, undercarriage and rigging added. Finally completed! 🙂
In Sep 1943, as light alloys were becoming increasingly difficult to obtain, instructions were given to design a wooden version of the Ki-84. The first prototype was flown in July 1945 and carried an armament of 4 x 20mm cannon but this was found to be too heavy. The second prototype was flown during the last week of the war with a revised armament of 2 x 20mm cannon.
There were either 3 (from RS instructions) or 4 protypes (Aviation of Japan website) built of this aircraft.
The markings are for an aircraft of 182. Shinbu Tai which was a unit of special attack unit. Aircraft from this unit were expected to defend against the B-29 threat and once ammunition was expended to ram a B-29 to inflict further casualties. In reality, the markings denoted were for a Ki-84 that was flown with this unit.
Thanks for watching mates. 👍

Turned out well. The lightning bolt certainly adds to the look of the aircraft.
