Thanks Gorby! This is my second vacu kit build and this time it feels a little bit more straight forward…
My experience so far with vacu kits is that you have to spend a good amount of time on fitting, sanding and putty work to get a nice base for paint and finishing. Also spending quite some time reviewing old photos to get a good picture of the details. This as there is a fair amount of scratch work to get a decent build.

You're a brave man, indeed! I will follow this thread with pleasure, for sure.

Nice, Nice 👍👍, lalways wanted to see a vacform build, Do you have to make up other parts to add on ??
Thanks for upload 😃👍

Thanks Mr D for your comments.
There will certainly be scratch build involved, mainly regarding the details as it looks for now. Otherwise I will raid my spare part stash first in order to save time and frustration.
If you are intrested in vac kits you can also have a look at my first vac kit:

Thanks 👍👍 great, will do , l have an intest...as l enjoy making parts, lve had to do it few times, when parts lost or broken or details missed of kit...even canopy once 🤣.
Will check out the XP-67

@Mr D - yes you will need some good scissors as a start😅, for the fine tuning of the parts I normally use saw razor blades and sanding paper of variuos grits. Regarding glue I use "normal" Tamyia Extra Thin, the vacu kit plastic is often quite soft and melts easily.

@Skyhiker - Happy to hear that your following with great intrest. Usually the building pace goes down during the sommer period as I have been reminded that we have a garden that also need some TLC…😂
Nevertheless, yes there is planning and ordning of parts going on behind the scenes. Cockpit need to be done, rescribing the full kit, alignment of wheels as the mold was totally off-set. Drill out all machine guns for after market parts etc.
The main work will be to prepare the plane for NMF look also including some aluminum dope areas. Will try AK's metal paints this time. Stay tuned!

Luckily the old Russian saying applies to Sweden too - "we have only 10 months of winter, but all the rest is summer!" 😄

Thanks for all intrest! Building place is a little slow at the moment.

Do you have much in the way of photo references??
Like the PE venting 👍👍
1 14 August 2024, 17:24
Mr D - regarding reference photos and material, did research some photos and blue prints on-line. In addition I have also checked out some ref builds both in 1/72 & 1/48 for further input on details.
Yes, the PE venting turned out good. Next step is to paint the cockpit and glue the airframe together

Great 👍👍 l like something different n interesting like this.
I recently used the thick tin foil of a hot chocolate lid to make a lost seat belt, it worked really well.
Like the seat.
Thanks for input n uploading 😁👌

Thanks Thomas, really appreciate your comment!
As usual the project ambition increases over time…😂
17 August 2024, 13:07
Mr D - thanks for your intrest and encouraging comments.
This time I went the easy way with just some tape for seat belts
1 17 August 2024, 13:12
Thanks! Feels always nice when the main build part is done and everything is aligned. Now time for rescribing.
20 August 2024, 16:55
Thanks Finn & Cuajete for your comments & intrest! Rescribing up next and then some final sanding to prep for paint.
Will try AK extreme metal paints for the first time in this build. Any experiance, tips or tricks regarding these paints for a solid result?
21 August 2024, 19:38
Thanks Robert!
It's almost to hot for painting now, used Tamiya rattle cans which dried very fast. Need some fine grit sanding paper to smooth the surface a little
1 16 July, 11:22
Some very decent good ol modelling work to be followed here. Very interesting- not least as I acquired my first Vacu kit just recently.
1 20 July, 07:50
Thanks Robert Podkoński, Cuajete & Michal Kohl for your kind words and comments. Very appreciated and encouraging!
@Michael Kohl - which vacu kit did you buy?
20 July, 09:32
@Micheal Kohl - Great, that is a nice plane.
Looking forward to see the build, you will make it look good!👍🏻

Need advice mates! Having problem with curling decals.
Letting the decal soak in warm water and Using Micro Set & Mikro Sol setting solution but still major curling problems. Is there any other stronger solution to sort this issue? Is Tamiya's setting solution stronger?
23 July, 13:57
It is, as is Mr Mark Setter (neo).
Some dudes go even as far as to apply Tamiya Cement Superthin to decals. Good luck.
2 23 July, 15:40
I'm using the Mr.Cement on top of the decals sometimes too, but remember it's a one-way ticket
1 23 July, 18:57
Many thanks for the advice Łukasz, you are brave! 👍🏻😊
I'm not there yet myself. Will play safe & try the Tamiya or Mr Mark setter solution. It's is high stakes this time, don't want to screw up a vacu kit on the final stretch of the build.
1 23 July, 19:03
Received ordered decals only to see that they were rubbish…
Back to the bench, decided to be bold going with the original decals and use Mr Cement as setting solution.
Worked great on 5 out of 6 roundels, so now respray of some parts of the airframe is on the todo list..
1 August, 16:30
Awesome! I wish I had so much patience to tackle a vacu kit... Chapeau bas!
1 27 August, 13:51
Many thanks for your kind comments Michael & Robert, feels very encouraging!
27 August, 14:26
Thanks everyone for your kind feedback. I appreciate this a lot mates!!!👍🏻
@Ben M - for sure some work, but I have to admit an old regular kit with poor moulds and fitting is more or less the same work. The big difference is that you have setup all detailing by yourself, meaning you have to sit down studying photos for hours to see all details and plan the scratch work to realize the details on the kit
@Skyhiker - yes, this will be the star among all spitfire kits!
