Italian Panavia Tornado ECR

Italy also decided to develop its own version of the Tornado ECR, called IT-ECR to distinguish it from the German one. Development was not particularly fast, and only in 1998 did the first examples reach the 50th Wing. Deliveries were completed only in 2002.
The IT-ECR retains the Mk.103 engines and IDS navigation/attack suite, the guns are suppressed, and is equipped with an ELS system interfaced with the HARM missiles, which constitute the main armament. There is also a sensor for infrared reconnaissance, a system for recording data in digital form and a data link. The equipment of the Italian IT-ECRs is a little less sophisticated than the German ones, as it lacks the side-scan IR reconnaissance system, but it must be considered that the Italian Air Force already has other assets for electro-optical reconnaissance, so this requirement was deemed superfluous.
