I have a soft spot for WWII military vehicles engaged after the war in more peaceful uses. The Kettenkrad was such a vehicle put into civilian use: from agriculture to taxi services for Alpine hotels. A number of Kettenkrads were apparently also used by various "Freiwillige Feuerwehr" organizations, volunteer fire brigades in several German or Austrian localities. Period BW photos online show Kettenkrads used by the FF units of Frankenfels, Oberstdorf, Reitern, Gersfeld. There is also apparently a fully-functional restored example bearing "Freiwillige Feuerwehr Gersfeld/Rhön" markings - many modern color photos online.
Once again, SCM Brand: LM Decals
prepared the custom decals needed for this little project. LM Decals' Fyll actually provided all necessary decals for the restored Gersfeld/Rhön example, down to the modern plate. Nevertheless, I do not intend this model to depict a specific example - I want this rather to be an "abstract" Freiwillige Feuerwehr Kettenkrad - some painting details, for instance, will be borrowed from an ex-Feuerwehr Kettenkrad photographed stored at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford.
