The Me 410 A-2 was realised as Zerstörer (heavy fighter) and left Messerschmitt's factory in Augsburg in January 1943 to replace Bf 110 and Me 210. The Umrüstsatz U4 (factory conversion set) provided the BK 5, a 50 mm anti-tank-gun. The A-2/U4 kept their two 20 mm MG 151 and two 7.9 mm MG 17 as well as two backwards firing 13mm MG 131.
