Having a go at the Hobby Boss Rafale C to complete a collection of European Euro Canards.
I’ve heard very good things about this kit and it’s gone together fantastically so far.
Note on the paints - colour for a Rafale is difficult to get, kit recommend medium sea grey for a bluish grey but I’ve settled for:
-Humbrol 64 for the aircraft and drop tanks (can I found a spare can in my stash)
-Tamiya AS-32 for the Scalp/ Storm Shadow missiles
-Tamiya AS-26 and Humbrol 22 for the MICA missiles.
Update 23/11/25: very very close to completion now.
Just require:
- Storm Shadow/ Scalp Missiles to be put onto the pylons
-AAR and pitot tubes to be fitted
-coat of Matt varnish
-masking off the cockpit and a paint of klear coat for the canopy
Very very fun build! Great kit!
Update 24/11/25
Build officially complete. Undoubtably one of the BEST value for price kits out there, this little kit is fantastic! Very very well moulded, parts assemble with ease, good decal options (not the best quality decals but that’s fine!), good loadout options (I went for Storm Shadow/ Scalp strike package with MICAs on the pylons and the 2000L drop tanks). Truly my most satisfying build of 2025 no doubt!
My only recommendations for anyone wanting to go a step further than the out of the box parts:
-aftermarket decals for more options (other international Rafale users or French Air Force display markings and more maintenance markings);
-aftermarket ASSM Hammer bomb and triple pylon if you want and air to ground strike configuration (also look at aftermarket targeting pods);
-aftermarket fuel tanks if you want to add a third to go on the underbelly pylon;
-grab a good quality masking set for the canopy (mine was okay but not the best).
Faire Face!
