In 1972, filmmakers used a Mi-1M with the number 2008 during the Warsaw Pact allied exercise Shield 72. The helicopter had the door on the right side of the cabin removed for filming purposes. Instead of a door, a seat for the cameraman was installed. The cameraman held the camera in his hands during filming.
In order to distinguish the helicopter from the machines of the fighting parties, it was painted with elements in a distinctive signal orange colour.
