From the beginning of its development, the L-40 Meta Sokol was intended as a replacement for the successful M-1D Sokol aircraft.
The L-40 Meta Sokol is an all-metal low-wing aircraft with a closed cabin for four passengers. The front cabin cover is attached to the fuselage, while the rear cover slides back 0.75 m. The three-wheel retractable landing gear has a somewhat unusual design. The rear wheel is not located at the end of the fuselage, as is usual, but approximately halfway along the fuselage at the level of the wing trailing edge.
The aircrafts was manufactured in Czechoslovakia in the second half of the 1950s, and several machines are still in operation today. By the end of production, 106 units of this beautiful machine had been manufactured. Practically two-thirds of production went abroad (to East Germany, West Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, Austria, Spain, and even Australia), which testifies to the quality of this machine.
