I decided to take a break from my aircraft or military subjects with this old pickup kit. I was going to build it as the welding truck option included in the kit, but the stock option was more attractable. I built it out of the box, I was going to wire the V8 flathead but decided to keep things simple and concentrate on finish. I wanted to do a glacial blue finish which is one of the original Ford colors for the 1953 year,
My first step was to remove the finish from the chrome plated parts so I could refinish the grill and bumpers in white, I refinished any silver remaining parts with Vallejo chrome silver. The closest option to glacial blue I could find was Monument Hobbies Pro Akryl blue gray. This is my first time I used this brand and it sprayed well out of the bottle with my airbrush. Since this is a flat finish I over coated it with decated Krylon gloss clear again using my airbrush, I used 3000 to 12000 sanding sponges to even out the clear coat followed by polishing compond with buffing using my Dremel tool. The wood in the pickup bed was brushed on using Vallejo air sand and brown shades with Vallejo aluminum for the metal strips.
Overall I was satisfied with the gloss finish since this is the first time I used this technique. I think if I do it again it will improve both the application of the coats and some additional sanding time.
