19. Panzer Division (Wehrmacht)

Scale:
1:35
Status:
In progress
Started:
November 28, 2025

19. Panzer Division was formed in November 1940. Beginning with Operation Barbarossa the Division fought on the Eastern Front until it surrendered to the Soviet Army in May 1945 in Czechoslovakia.
On 22 June 1941 the 19. Panzer Division's 27 Panzer Regiment consisted of 110 PzKw 38(t), 42 PzKw I, 35 PzKw II, and 30 PzKw IV. Under Command of Guderian's Army Group Center, 19. Panzer Division advanced via Minsk, Smolensk, and by November, towards Moscow. The division incurred heavy losses during this time and during the Winter of 1941-42 as well. By Spring of 1942, the 3 Panzer Battalions of the 27th Panzer Regiment had been consolidated into 1 Panzer Battalion. Tank strength was down to 6 PzKw II, 35 PzKw 38(t), 12 PzKw III, and 4 PzKw IV. In the Summer of 1942, the division fought in the Vyazma, Smolensk areas and in August at Orel. November 1942, 19. Panzer Division was place in reserve to rest and refit. Up to this point the reliance of the Czech light tanks (PzKw 38 (t)) proved to handicap the fighting capabilities against newer Soviet medium and heavy tanks. New German tanks began to improve this disparity.
In February 1943, 19. Panzer Division was sent to the Donetz front to support the battered Italian Army. On July 5th, 1943, the division attacked into the Kursk Salient as part of 4th Panzerarmee (Southern Sector). Little headway was made before the Offensive was canceled on July 10. A fighting retreat was conducted to Kiev (now Kviv) and Zhitomir.
In May 1944, 19. Panzer Division was sent to Holland to refit. The division received 81 PzKw IV, 79 PzKw V, and 8 FlakPanzer. In August, the division was shipped to Warsaw to help put down the Polish Warsaw Uprising after which it fought on the Vistula-Odon Front. The Soviets then pushed the 19. Panzer Division toward Breslau and into Czechoslovakia until the surrender in May 1945.
