VARIG, a Brazilian airline, operated the Lockheed L-188 Electra II, a turboprop airliner, in Brazil from 1962 onwards. It was a significant addition to their fleet, particularly on the popular "air bridge" route between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. VARIG eventually operated a total of eleven Electra IIs.
