How to build a pacific diorama

Until today my dioramas or displays were always flat. Now I'll learn something about building a diorama which has a slight relief. I have chosen a scene, a section of a Pacific Isle, Northeastern of New Guinea. Maybe Tarawa is an example. Dogs shall play a leading role. American and Japanese dogs.

My way to the diorama: learning by doing ... trial and error ... following examples ... reading ... video-tutorials and so on. And also I have a collection of historical photographs, always a good base for modelling. There are good archives in the States.

But there are also questions and I'm looking for answers.
For example:
When is a diorama overloaded?
Where can I install something in the right place?
How can I generate interest by spectators?
...

But first the dobermans must be sent to a veterinary clinic. It's like as if they were
sawn in two halfes and then glued together ...
