My father's logbook says he was assigned to RCAF 427 'Lion' Sqn, based in Zweibrucken, West Germany in 1955. The first Sabre he flew with the squadron was a Mk.V 23199 on Jan 20.
Also building another Sabre, as the first one he flew after being posted to 1(F) OTU Chatham to learn to fly the Sabre.

Nice start.
Don't forget to remove the box at the base of the dorsal fin and the scoop on the starboard side (close to the airbrake)

I usually use Klear on my kit canopies, but I picked up some Deluxe 'Looks Like Glass' from Telford a couple years ago.
Seems a little thick, but the instructions say you can dilute it with water.
Dipped the canopy, and set it up on paper towel to absorb the excess. Let dry for 24 hours. I think it came out pretty good. You no longer see the minor scratches from rattling around loose in the box since 1982.
Metallic Details make a Martin Baker Mk.5 Ejection Seat in 1/72. Will have to place an order...

My father logbook says he was assigned to 1(F) OTU Chatham on October 4, 1954. His first flight on the Sabre was with Mk.V 23242 on Oct. 14.
Also building another Sabre, as the first one he flew after being posted to 427 Sqn in Zweibrucken, West Germany in 1955.

The Canadair Mk.3 was the first test-airframe to use an Orenda engine. There wasn`t a lot of external differences, and those would be hard to notice in 1/72 anyway...
Markings are pretty simple, so I am going to try to make my own. Just trying to figure out the correct size and font.

Have some Kit Masx on order, hopefully be here next week so I can start masking, then spraying the AK Aluminum.

Building the old Frog Mitchell as a PRU aircraft from No 681 Sqn based in Burma in 1944.
Scratch-built the cockpit/bomb aimer area detail.

Just checked, those molds are from 64 and they don't look that bad. Interested to see the finished product. Cheers Ray

The kit is a product of its time, raised panel-lines, no interior detail, moveable control surfaces. But it was cheap, $5 at a vendor table from the Torcan Model Show.
Separated the flaps from the wings, to mount in the extended position. The panel lines from the top wing don't line up with the panel lines on the bottom. That is going to need a bit of putty... I told myself this is going to be the only modification. Other than the interior and maybe some aftermarket wheels...
Painted the cockpit, bomb-aimer, and interior of the wheel wells with Ammo By MIG FS34151 Zinc Chromate Interior Green.
The kit seats are a bit underwhelming, so scratch-built two new ones. A little over-sized, but I think they look better.
The pictures of the PRU aircraft are few and far between, and even those ones are not very good. Trying to determine the colour of the Props. Looks like the prop hub is painted in a dark colour, not sure if it's black or the Oxford Blue of the airframe. And whether or not the prop tips were yellow... I painted the whole prop with Tamiya TS-6 Flat Black, and will go with yellow on the ends of the blades.

Found a sales flyer from B-N online, with photos of the interior of the Home Guard Islanders - of course long after I closed up the fuelage.
On entry into service, the aircraft had two-bladed propellers, but looks like they picked up four-bladed props at some point. Those look a little too hard to scratch-build, so two-bladed propellers it is!
Trying to find data on the FLIR equipment that was mounted on the left side of the fuselage. Nice picture of the mounting bracket, again thanks to the sales brochure.

Sounds like you suffer from a two-steps-forward,one-step-back-phase too. Cross my fingers that it'll be overcome soon.

I have set up a Group Build for the de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk, starting January 1. May 22 2026 is the 80th Anniversary of the first flight.
The aircraft was licensed built in England and Portugal, and used by many nations air forces. There are kits available in 1/72 from Airfix and AZ, 1/48 from Airfix and Aeroclub.

Wish militaries the world over would post the paint FS numbers for their aircraft. Would make life so much easier.
Sources vary, saying it was ADC FS16473, while others say FS16515. I am leaning more toward the ADC grey, but will need to order paint either way.
The paint guide I have says the Radar-Dome is `light grey with a faint green undertone`. Yeah, that narrows it down. Going to take a look at early RCAF F-104s and see what their colours are. The Danish 104s (single-seats, anyway) were built by Canadair - about 30 km from where live!
It also lists the Anti-Glare panel as `Dark Matte Grey`. Looking at period photos, there does seem to be a difference between the anti-glare panels and engine inlets. Might try Humbrol 32 Dary Grey for that.

One of the issues with being a slow builder is loosing parts. Had to cobble together an intake plate, landing gear support struts and the landing light holder on the nose gear.
Overall, happy with the result. A couple things could have gone better, but hopefully better next model!

I have a Academy FB-111 that was my first build, after returning to the hobby. To look at it now it looks terrible, so it will be getting tore down and given a majior face lift, with what I have learned here on scalemates over the last four years.

Nice collection of both unbuilt and built Gordon. The polish holders are a good idea. May have to invest in a pair.
