800,000 men. 2400 tanks. 26,000 artillery guns. 3000 aircraft. That was the response that the Soviets had in store for the Germans after their failed offensive, Operation Citadel or as it's more commonly known as....the Battle of Kursk.
This response, Operation Kutuzov, was Russia's counter-attack commencing on July 12, 1943. Its objective was to collapse the protruding German lines at the Orel salient, just north of Kursk, and encircle the German 9th Army.
