El SAER (Servicio Aéreo de la Guardia Civil) se convirtió en el primer operario estatal con la adquisición de la primera aeronave en 2.003. En 2.006 el Consejo de Ministros aprueba el programa de adquisición de 24 aeronaves, 12 para la Policía Nacional y otros 12 para la Guardia Civil. Se buscaba un helicóptero ligero polivalente policial que pudiera sustituir tanto en la Policía Nacional como en la Guardia Civil a los helicópteros más antiguos que debido a sus años se estaban quedando ya desfasados. En 2.005 se firmó un acuerdo con la entonces Eurocopter, las últimas aeronaves que se fueron entregando se pagaron con un tanto por ciento con fondos de la Unión Europea a través de FRONTEX.

Estas aeronaves se han ido desplegando por las diferentes Unidades Aéreas y han ido sustituyendo a los helicópteros que mayor número de horas tenían. Entre sus equipos podemos destacar la utilización de una grúa con una capacidad mínima de carga de 200 Kg, con un cable de longitud mínima de 50 metros para rescates, fundamentalmente para la montaña y en apoyo a unidades como los GREIM (Grupos de Rescate e Intervención en Montaña), foco de iluminación, plataforma para rapel, grúa especifica para hacer descenso en Fast Rope, torretas FLIR o Wescam con sus correspondientes equipos de consola, también están habilitados para realizar vuelos nocturnos con GVN (gafas de visión nocturna).

A partir de 2018 se inicia la modernización de algunos de los aparatos de la variante P2+ a la versión P3, el cual el HU.26-04/09-302 fue el primero.

En 2021 el gobierno anuncia a través del Consejo de Ministros del 8 de noviembre de 2021 la adquisición de 18 helicópteros H135 (antiguo EC-135) para el SAER y Policía Nacional. De esta manera el SAER ve aumentada la flota de H135 con nueve aparatos H135 P3H.
A finales de octubre de 2.022 se entrega un nuevo aparato sumando un total de 22 en la flota del SAER.

The Civil Guard's Air Service (SAER) became the first state-owned operator with the acquisition of its first aircraft in 2003. In 2006, the Council of Ministers approved the acquisition program for 24 aircraft, 12 for the National Police and 12 for the Civil Guard. The aim was to acquire a multi-purpose light police helicopter that could replace the older helicopters in both the National Police and the Civil Guard, which were becoming obsolete due to their age. In 2005, an agreement was signed with Eurocopter, and the final aircraft delivered were partially financed with European Union funds through FRONTEX.

These aircraft have been deployed to different Air Units and have been replacing the helicopters with the highest flight hours. Among their equipment, we can highlight the use of a hoist with a minimum lifting capacity of 200 kg, with a cable at least 50 meters long for rescues, primarily in mountainous areas and in support of units such as the GREIM (Mountain Rescue and Intervention Groups), a lighting spotlight, a rappelling platform, a specific hoist for fast rope descents, FLIR or Wescam turrets with their corresponding console equipment, and they are also equipped for night flights with NVG (night vision goggles).

Starting in 2018, the modernization of some of the P2+ variant aircraft to the P3 version began, with HU.26-04/09-302 being the first.

In 2021, the government announced, through the Council of Ministers on November 8, the acquisition of 18 H135 helicopters (formerly EC-135) for the SAER (Special Air Rescue Service) and the National Police. This increased the SAER's H135 fleet by nine aircraft.

At the end of October 2022, another aircraft was delivered, bringing the total number of H135 helicopters in the SAER fleet to 22.
