JohnYeah for touch ups I learned the hard way just to go ahead and mask off an entire panel and recoat. You can still have some variation but it's at least more passable than a splotch right in the middle of one.

Rando AuthorAlmost done with final assembly. It's subtle, but the canopy frame doesn't quite match the shade of grey on the fuselage, so I'm spaying on some more gull grey. Just some more weathering, clear coats, and detail bits to add, and she's done!

Rando AuthorA great choice. That's one of many in my plans too. For the C, make sure you get the early windscreen with the full length front window. Of all the parts CAT4 made, that might be the most essential, since you can reprofile the nose and remove the hump yourself, but it's much harder to replace that clear window. If you get CAT4's "early set" it has what you need for a C or a D except the windscreen a C needs. It also has the correct instrument panel with the round radar scope, which is nicely 3D printed. Rando AuthorHi Tom, great to have you. Unfortunately the revised CAT4 nose is still too short. This little adventure in trying to correct that has ended in failure, as from a couple angles I can see I totally ruined the shape. Fortunately I'm working with a 3D printing expert who will help make a correct nose. I'll be relaunching this project when that's ready.

Rando AuthorHi all, I'm putting the VF-111 F-8C on hold, but I am forging ahead with building a CAT4 F-8D using their VF-32 decals. Came up with a 3D printed solution that's much better than the botched nose job! Posting those photos in a different album.

Rando AuthorThanks Mark! And thanks Nick, I actually got one that's 2 feet wide, since I wanted to make sure it fits a 1:48 F-101. Until now I've been taking photos with sheets of paper in my spraybooth and it feels kinda amateurish. Still have to set it up, but hoping to this weekend

Rando AuthorAt this time I'm still uncertain exactly which F-8 I will build for my first CAT4 conversion, but this might be one of them. The Cutting Edge decal sheet I have is over 20 years old but is far and away the best possible version, as it's much more accurate than the SuperScale or PrintScale sheets. I'll have to test some of the nonessential decals on the sheet to see if it's still usable. If not I won't go with the Jolly Roger.

Rando AuthorTurns out the little I tried from the sheet did not hold up at all. I'll try liquid decal film, but my past attempts with it haven't worked great. Looks like it might be Nargi's VF-111 MiG Killer instead
