S-3B Viking VS-38 Red Griffins OIF

1/48 S-3B Viking VS-38 during OIF. Other than the engine pods, the AMT/ESCI kit is fairly decent for its age. Aftermarket includes:

Stole an AGM-65 from the GWH A-10C kit.

On 25 March 2003, an S-3B Viking of Sea Control Squadron 38 operating from Constellation (CV 64) destroyed Saddam Hussein's yacht, the Al Mansunear near Basra, Iraq, with an AGM-65E Maverick missile. The historic event was the first overland combat strike by a Viking, and its first firing of a laser-guided missile in combat. The target was laser designated by an F/A-18C Hornet of Strike Fighter Squadron 151. The Viking refueled the hornets on the way back to CV-64.
