Eight Nifties

Major Clyde V Knisley of the 405th FG, 510th FS, "White Leader" and was shot down by FlaK of Manteuffel's 5th Army on the 19th January 1945 during the last days of the Battle of the Bulge in the Diekirch Area.

Major Knisley has been awarded with an Air Medal with 12 oak leaf clusters (2 silver, 2 bronze) American Campaign Medal American Defense Medal Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal Distinguished Flying Cross with 2 oak leaf clusters, Purple Heart, Silver Star, World War II Victory Medal, Croix de Guerre (French) European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars. He shot down one German aircraft on 24th December 1944. MACR#11844.
