HMS Glamorgan 1982

 

The content of the kit. Controll showed that a complete 3D printed fret was missing. It contained e.g. the containers for the life rafts. Some of the 3D printed parts are so small that it was difficult to identify them on the fret, even with a magnifier.
 

All red marked parts are on the missed 3D printed fret . After complaining it at the manufacturer I get a replacement part.  

Because I intended to present the model on a sea base I glued 1 mm styrol sheet at the underside of the hull 

Radar antenna, looks difficult but with a little patience it is aasembled without problems 

 

 

 

I glued some magnets into the hull. So I can position the model in each position which makes some assemblies easier  

 

Reseach showed that despite the instruction HMS Glamorgan still wears partly green ( I used Gunze H340) painted decks on the Falklands War. This changed after the battle damages were repaired after the war when the green parts have been painted grey. 

Some weathering , I used fotos taken at her return to GB as reference

Test fit with the base 

One challenge was to build the cage antennas. I decided to build them with 0,1 mm wire. To tension the wire during construction I build a device that allows to do this by means of a wedge. 

First distance ring is glued in 

Four rings are installed. The dimensions have been fixed by try and error. The first antenna took me 1 and 1/2 an hour. After some experience it took 3/4 of an hour 

The nearly finished antenna. After painting it turned ot that they look a little bit prominent. At the next model I will use thinner wire, e.g. 0,05 mm. But nevertheless the construction method works

The finished helicopter with markings. The markings are not included in the kit which is the only negative to be mentioned.
