Fokker Dr. I
October 1, 2025The kit is the Eduard Weekend in 1/48 scale. I added an Eduard PE set, Small Stuff Engine and brass MG barrels.
October 1, 2025The Small Stuff engines are beautiful in 1/48 scale. The only addition was ignition wires to the plugs. The cowling has to be thinned out in order for the engine to rotate and will require some test fitting.
October 1, 2025With most of my WWI builds I try to work on components separately, paint them, apply decals and then assemble them.
October 1, 2025Aligning the wings is something I often see overlooked. It is very easy to make a jig so the three wings can be aligned while the glue dries. I just use the grandkids Legos.
October 1, 2025The aircraft completed. One of the additions was the stacking lugs on the front of the wings and aluminum tubing for the air intakes on the side of the fuselage.
October 1, 2025The propeller is scratch built from laminated veneer and then carved and sanded to shape. It gets a coat of orange varnish and decals followed by the propeller hub.
October 1, 2025The white paint was actually an off white from AK Real Color.
October 1, 2025The control surfaces are moved off of the neutral position with the internal stick and rudder moved to match. I think it gives the model a sense of being in use.
October 1, 2025The rigging (what little there is) and control cables are done with Infini Aero rigging, micro tubing and gas patch turnbuckles. I use the elastic Infini Aero rigging because it is very forgiving if I accidentally touch it with my finger.
