@Mark, right? But i do hope Airfix did their research properly and trust them for now. Btw, there's a gorgeous Airfix Lysander posted on this site with a gun metal cowling. It's fantastic!

I have observed Felix, some Beaufighters with a gun metal/dulled metal cowling's. But then again Wimpie's, Blenheim's with copper toned cowling's. It may be the heat from the engine's but I usually blue mine up anyway.

Nice paint job so far Felix. I see you are using AK3G They were the final straw that pushed me towards AKRC and other lacquers.

@Mark i started out with Ammo Mig acrylics, coming back to the hobby. But their hues are awful. AK acrylics have beautiful RAF colors but i always have to use Flow Improver. Are lacquers hazardous?

Mark Sherwood
They can be, if ingested/inhaled. Otherwise it's just the smell on some brands. Tamiya and to a degree AKRC are hybrids, I used Hataka and Tamiya lacquers recently they spray nice. Mr Surfacer is my go to primer now along along with the UV Cut varnishes for the finish. Oh and Tamiya semi clear lacquer varnish too. You certainly need a spray booth and mask, which I would recommend for any type of paint, primer, varnish due to particulates in the air. But I found freehanding and mottling camouflage a lot easier with them. Use the proprietary thinners for the brand, mainly AK and Mr Hobby for me.

You are absolutely right, regardless of what type of color is sprayed, a booth and a mask are obligatory.

Album info

I love british interwar planes and those used at the beginning of WW2. The Lysander is no exception. I will be building this without any aftermarket products, except for the canopy masks.
