Great work on the smaller GWH version 👍
I should have read your tip about cutting the decals on the nose in pieces sooner. That was also true for my larger version.
Did you fix the problem with the counter-rotating engine blades?
@Neuling Thank you, sir! Building this kit was a real joy.
@bughunter Thank you, sir! I checked your build and can't wait to see her when finished. For the nose decals, yes, it was a real pain when I realized. Btw, I managed to pull the decal off before it dried and cut it into multiple pieces before trying again. About the engine blades, unfortunately, I didn't make any corrections. I also noticed that and informed her owner, but he decided to go with it. I have my own hog lying up too; that bird will be corrected since I'm planning to use aftermarket parts.
At least the rotations are not visible on your pictures 😉
With two kits you could have cross changed one blade between the models. On one model they rotate then in the wrong direction, but at least the rotation would be the same on both engines.
Yes, the GWH decals are nicely printed and great to work with. On my kit the grey should only be printed a bit darker.
"With two kits you could have cross changed one blade between the models" oh my! I didn't even think about it.
Your two tones Hog is so catchy, I want to build one too but let's finish my conventional scheme first. Two Bobs offers decals of that dark Hog in 1/72. I'll get one. 😊
Extraordinary work on that hog, really aresome. 👍
This being built out of the box, it's another proof that a proper paint job is more important than hundreds of detailing parts being messed up after painting. 😉
Thanks for sharing, cannot wait to have my hog on my workbench (though it's gonna be a A-10A...)
@Thorsten Höse Thank you, sir. I totally agreed with you. By the way, sometimes I decide to go with tons of aftermarket parts for a challenging build. That's why I always define my builds as "OOB" or "Hi-Specs". This kit is excellent straight out of the box. You will be happy with your A Hog, I'm sure😉
@Shar Dipree @Tibor Szilvai @Mr James Thank you for your kind words 👍
@ Nate: Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of good detail sets! 😉
But with every additional detail set implemented to the build the challenges are raising to keep up with the painting. And sometimes it is as you've proven with your build: It's not always necessary to add tons of aftermarket sets to get a stunning result!
@Thorsten Höse, I checked your profile and found interesting stuff out there. I totally agreed, as I've faced those problems myself while I was building my F-16. I'm trying to step up with those detail sets, but my experience is a big obstacle. However, I see it as a learning curve, and it's going to be better through time, I guess. 👍
@Gergő S @Mark K @Clement Thank you all 😊

A-10C Warthog 1/72 GWH - Built out of the box as I focused on basic modeling methods and simple painting.
Beautiful, beautiful kit from GWH! The details and kit engineer are awesome. The box contains a variety of ordnance, including targeting pods and jamming pods. Decals are also well printed and offer a lot of options and marvelous paint schemes of this bird.
Despite the overall quality of the kit being top-notch, there are still some points that require extra work.
For instance:
- The nose art decals needed to be taken care of and needed to be cut off before applying to make them align perfectly on the nose's curved surface.
- Some gaps between fuselage parts needed to be filled with putty, while I had to deal with rivet details around the sanding spots, quite a nervy job.
- Undercarriage parts are complex. They have excellent details, but I recommend that you install the gear doors before the legs and be careful with those tiny parts that link the gear door with the gear legs; they are super fragile.
The airframe has been painted in a famous scheme of 163rd FS "Black Snake", 122nd FW, a unit of the Indiana Air National Guard, which deployed in Afghanistan in 2018.
The extraordinary loadout is a request of its owner.
Started 14 June 2025 : Finished 31 August 2025.
Project approximately time ~ 42 hours.
The Hog is ready to roll out!
Hope you guys enjoy it.
