Sometimes my decision to purchase a kit is based solely on the box art. I am not a "train guy", but when I saw that beautiful box in a japanese hobby store I knew I wanted to build it...

That's certainly something different. Can't blame you, the box does look good. Looking forward to the result!

Ivan? Ivan has pretty good taste 😄
No, it is a static model, but there is an LED upgrade for the beams which I will use as well.

๐๏ธ๐๏ธ I do a lot of railway modeling as well as "regular" scale modeling. Looking forward to this!

Oh no. Not another Japanese National Railways Class EF66 Heavy Electric Locomotive! ๐

And right after this project, another beautiful diesel locomotive in the same style and scale!
Diesel locomotive DD51 Super Detail (Aoshima 009987, 1:45)

Want to follow this. I just got and started Aoshima's EF60 kit. Was going to be hard on it until I realized it was 1972 tool. Just as fun, but a bit more cleanup. This one looks beautiful so far!

Hey venser, I have already eyeballed the EF60. How is it coming along? Too bad it is not 1:45 like the newer train kits...

Good, I have finished assembling the bogies and am moving on to the interior. I uploaded a photo. Looking deeper at your photos, the detail (and part count) is crazy! it is interesting they moved from 1:50 to 1:45. There are some nice looking JNR steam locomotive kits from ARII in 1:50 that I'd like to do in the future.

1:45 seems to be one of the common scale for model railroaders (O gauge) this is why they chose that odd number.

Finished my gorgeous blue dame. Getting out of my comfort zone and trying something new turned out to be one of the most enjoyable bu
ilds of my "career". Highly recommended kit.

Nice locomotive, these kits are so detailed. And as someone hwo has worked at the railway his whole life I can say that your weathering is spot on for a engine that has seen its fare share of mileage but also has been wel taken care of, as you expect from Japanese Railways.

Looks very good. I didn't understand what the pre-shading was when you first posted it, but understood when I could see the result. Thanks for showing it! And I really love the lights.

Wow, stunning build and kit. Perfect amount of weathering. I want to try that pre-shading technique, looks like the preshade was applied (patiently) with airbrush?

Great great great! I was very happy to follow this project, especially since I myself have a kit of another locomotive in 1:50. Looks absolutely realistic, you got the maximum out of the kit. ๐๐๐

Now all you need is the right model railway board so that the locomotive can move around in its natural environment? ๐
1 12 November, 08:01
Yeah! Not my genre but outstanding craftmanship to see here! Well done ๐

Thx at all!
@Matti: you described exactly what I was going for
@venser: It was applied with an airbrush using a splatter template, something akin to this one: Spatter Airbrush Stencil (Ma..(Alexen Model FG-AJ0059, No)
@Bernhard: getting maximum out of kits is your domain my dear Bernhard, in fact this was 98% out of the box. Okay, let's be generous...97%
@BAT21: I doubt I'll ever stray off the beaten path into model railroading, let alone in Scale O. However I want to get hold of some rails in that scale and present it properly next to the diesel locomotive from Aoshima that I want to build too. Even considering building another EF66, a modernized version in a different livery
