All done. 

Almost there......just those horrid tyre markings.....yuck 

I clear coated it with some Testors gloss out of the can. The white decals had an unexpected reaction. 

All decorated, save one. One escaped the box somehow. I went through every piece in my trash can and scowered the desk area: nope. One of these days ( hopefully sooner than later), I will probably find the escapee in an entirely other room, dragged there by my feet somehow. For now, the decals are complete. 

The Shells were too large to place on the headlights, so there goes the accuracy....to go along with the missing number plate on the roof....bugger. 

 

The rear pinstripe was my last concern.....was. Now, I seem to have a missing decal. ......always something. 

Coming along.... 

I dug out my crappy Tamiya 962 body to see how similar in size they are for future reference about using the masks Tamiya have with their Shell kit. That thing has been buried in my garage for maybe 20 years, after I realized what junk it was. 

Here you can see the difference between attempt 1 and 2. That Shell turned out to be the key to the whole puzzle. 

....and the Silly Putty did the job 

Somehow, my mask didn't quite go all the way around the number plate . For the 2nd time, I had to break out the Silly Putty to mask over a decal.... 

I wish I had taken some pics of this, before and after. I applied the white decals and found that I hadn't quite made the red on the left fender wide enough. I had to mask on top of thar decal using Silly Putty. Incredibly, it worked. Even more incredibly, I didn't wind up with a seam in the middle of all that red. Not so incredibly, those white decals are awful. They are so thin......how has Hasegawa not caught up with everyone else in printing white decals that CAN'T be seen through? Regardless, I will push forward and learn what I can. That paper to the right is not a mask, in case anyone was curious. 

First, incorrect paint job on the left. Second try on the right. You can see that I only missed it by a centimeter or so......SO close! Note the paper "decal" on the left body. I made all those then dry fit them like a puzzle to make sure the actual decals would fit properly...and where, exactly. 

The white undercoat 

I traced out all the white decals to make rough ( very rough ) masks. 

Once again, filled in the incorrect naca duct. I thoght about cutting out the proper duct over the cabin but chose not to be that brave 

Attempt #2. Whole new kit. I found a pic of Stucks #1 car that had no headlights ( see project pic ) and decided to do that version. 

I got the first attempt painted, but something kept eating at me that it wasn't right. I put it on hold and one day took it out of the pile. I outlined the Shell shell that goes on the nose and found my error: I had gone too far with the red. I had traced out the white pinstripe that separates the red and yellow but I didn't take into account that the stripe intersects the number plate. I matched it all the way to the fender and oooops.... 

I started this project in 2024. This was the first attempt. First thing to do was to fill in the incorrect naca duct. The BIG upside to this particular 962 is it is one of, if not the only, 962 with those protruding rear brake ducts, so I didn't have to correct that mistake too.
