I built a model of this folk car, produced in the 1960s in the former German Democratic Republic, at the request of my wife. It is a memory of her childhood years, when her father owned this car and took the whole family on trips in it. And later he used this car to transport building materials for the construction of the family house.

The Revell kit is very nicely done, but unfortunately it is a late production car. In order to build a car from an earlier series, I had to make a few modifications. My father-in-law's Trabant had the older body-colored bumpers without the plastic end caps and rubber tabs. It also had an older dashboard design with a different steering wheel, no armrests inside but just simple leather loops, and no headrests on the front seats.

Oh, and that piece of wooden toothpick isn't even part of the Trabant kit. I just used it as a tool to prop the doors open for photographing the open engine and trunk 😄.

I still hear the sound of the 26hp two-stroke engine tin-tin-tin 🙂 Not only produced in the 1960, but up to the end of the GDR 1990,, only in parallel one with a new engine at the very end.
Your model is nicely done 👍

Ó ano, zvuk motoru Trabanta je naprosto jedinečný a nezaměnitelný.
Velmi pěkně jej napodobuje tento maďarský imitatátor hned v první ukázce tohoto videa:

Thank you, Martin!

Thanks to its availability, low price and reliability, the Trabant was the favourite car of (not only) Czechoslovak drivers in the 1960s and 1970s.
