Westland Lysander
1July 18, 2025Even the box art is lovely.
(Although they are propagating the myth that the collector rings on Bristol engines were brass looking - they were stainless steel and could discolour due to heat or rust, but a well maintained in service aircraft would be silvery with a bit of heat blue-ing at most. I do *try* to do my research, even if my models may not look like it!)
2July 18, 2025Loads of sprues!
(To be fair, there were, for example, pretty much four complete sets of canopies to cover all options, so there has been many additions to my spares library...)
3July 18, 2025With this amount of internal detail, I'm doing canopies open
4July 18, 2025Shame most of this will be invisible soon.
5July 18, 2025Gone a bit OTT on the engine, trying to bring out all of the detail with umpteen different variations of "shiny silverish" from my paint collection. You won't see most of this...
6July 18, 2025Last chance to see... this side, as all of the detail is about to be sealed up against the nose of the airfame.
7July 18, 2025Bombs, so many bombs...
8July 18, 2025Tra-da!
9July 18, 2025Marvel at the wing tip nav light. They are a work of art by yours truly in themselves!
(Ahem collector ring colour 😉 re: pedantry note at the start!)
10July 18, 2025Bristol Mercury engine... and you can't see most of that detailing that I pain(t)stakingly painted, of course.
11July 18, 2025Canopies open to show off the detail, of course. That little silver spider with the red centre took some serious online googling to work out what it was supposed to look like.
Technically, that's the wrong gun - my choice, I thought the Mk I's Vickers K with drum mags was nicer looking than the Mk III's twin Browning. It's my model, I get to be selectively pedantic!
12July 18, 2025Bit of mirror action to show off the underside too.
And yes, I used to lettering on the decal sheet to put the model information on the underside. A frequent habit of mine when the decals are up to it. I'm an Engineer, I like to catalogue things.
13July 18, 2025You can see inside that tiny window on both sides and see the ballast weights inside, such is the level of detail on this beast.
14July 18, 2025Love those wheel spats.
15July 18, 2025A view inside the cockpit again.
One challenge was to get the camo on the slid-back canopies right given they're out of position!
