Project overview
Comments
Thanks Josh96. This was my first attempt with airbrush. Used acryllic waterbases paint wich perfomred beautifully. Only to find out when placing the decals that the paint does not like decalsolution. So future projects will all be done with laquerpaints (more durable).
I wouldn't have thought it was your first attempt at airbrushing! I see that you use Micro-sol/set for the decals - it should not be an issue with acrylics under a layer of acrylic gloss coating- at least not from my experience. I prefer lacquer, it goes on smoothly, has the durability you mentioned, and can be thinned down better than acrylics IMHO - but the odor is terrible - a good reminder to vent your workspace after airbrushing!
I use Testors enamels for their low cost and decent finish, but for the ease of cleanup I prefer Vallejo model air paint (the enamels are a huge pain to clean out of my airbrush. I haven't had any Micro SOL react with the Vallejo stuff despite not having a gloss coat. The low odor of the acrylics is a plus!
Album info
First plane since my youth and first try with paintbrush.
Used waterbases acrylics.
Was very pleased with the result of the paintjob, untill i put on the decals.
The waterbases paint just would not play nicely with the decals and the decal solutions.
So Future builds will be with laquer paints.
Tried the florrymodels weathering but was a bit to accessive with it, it got into parts i can not clean up.
They said "just slap it on and let it dry, then wipe it off", so i did.
Just have to be more carefull next times to not just slap it on and keep away from parts you cant reach to get cleaned up.
Overall still very happy with the endresult for a first try with a non expensive kit.
I bought this specific kit because of the dutch decals, but the kit itself is not very good if i may say so, i would not recommend this kit unless only for the decals.
The intake is non existent (just an upwards flap inside the intake), the back strutt does not fit very nicely and the canopy does not fit closely to the cockpit (to wide a gap between them).
Rest fits nicely and goes together easely.
I will be making another f-16A kit from another manufacturor with more detailed intakes to replace this one, i just might have to buy this kit again for the decals because i cant find them seperately.
But first lots of other kits to build, starting with the not to expensive ones to build up experience with the airbrush.
