William Shomo is a local hero. He was born in Jeanette, Pennsylvania, and is buried in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. I live near both locations. After the war, one of his assignments was in command of the 54th Fighter Interceptor Group at Greater Pittsburgh International Airport. The Flying Undertaker is a popular color scheme among modelers here in western PA.

Looking good! I'm glad to see you didn't make the mistake of building The Flying Undertaker as an F-6D. (There is at least one decal printer who made that error.) It was a standard P-51D-20-NA. Snooks the 5th, serial number 44-14841, was the aircraft in which Shomo flew on his Medal of Honor action and it was an F-6D. He was assigned 44-72505 when his unit moved to a new base and that is the one painted as The Flying Undertaker.

Chilly Billy. Thx. I checked some books and photos of this plane. Pictures are clearly and I never thought to build "The Flying Undertaker " as F-6D 🙂

That's good. Some modelers would go with incorrect source material. Looking forward to seeing both of your Shomo Mustangs.

I built one "Snooks 5th" in 1/72nd scale.
